WEBMASTER NOTE: This is the old user guide for the GTR MOD for F1-2002. While not written for rFactor, much applies.

GTR User Guide

The Pre-Game menu offers you several options

At the top is the "Choose Player" selection.

If you have more than one player you may choose here.

When you are in the Pre Game menu you will see the 3 types of cars you may select. The GT and 24-hour GT class cars are similar in performance, the N-GT are lower in power and are easier to control.

Unselecting any of these options will remove the cars from your car selection screens.
Next is the number of opponents in races.

Some of the add on tracks require this setting to be lowered to around 20 due to pit restrictions.
Next comes Opponent Aggression.

Options

Opponent aggression controls the AI drivers "behavior" on the track it does not control their strength.

Over all AI strength is set in the Championship mode.
More on that setting HERE (Coming soon)

The Timid setting will have the AI drivers neatly falling into line in corners and Kamikaze AI will weave, block, and generally make it much harder to pass.

Since this will be a testing session set your "Mode" to "Amateur". Once your car performs the way you like you can change this back to professional.

The only difference between the 2 modes is the shifting.
Amateur mode does not require you to "blip" the gas when downshifting to equalize engine and drive train rpm.

For the most realistic results this is best used with a clutch controller and clutch assist turned off.

You should, if you are considering online multiplayer, get used to the professional mode as most online races are set up in professional mode.

The bottom set of icons gives you further choices.
Advanced Options will show you:
  • The selected player

  • The player's car

  • Other car engine volume
If this is set too high you might have problems hearing your own engine when in a crowd.

  • Glance Angle.
This setting controls how much your head will turn when you are steering into a corner and the look right/look left options.
This is also set using the glance by steering icon at the bottom of the page.
  • Maximum Visible Vehicles
Keeping this low will help with frame rates when in a group of AI or Multiplayer cars.

  • Max Multiplayer Players
Sets the online pit maximum. If you are on a regular broadband connection 10 is about the maximum.

  • Multiplayer Closed Qualify
When you venture online you will notice that players entering the pits will cause your game to hang for a moment. When this happens there is a good probability that you may spin out or crash.
Closing the pit to new players during qualifying sessions insures clean laps.

  • Record Race Telemetry is an option that will serve you well.
You will need the program from Find The Limit
Race telemetry can be used to see a number of factors that will determine your lap times. Throttle/brake use, your racing line and much more. More on this later.

Choosing a car and setting up in the pre game menu

Click on the "change car" icon.

When the choose car screen shows up you will be able to use the arrows that point to the side or down to choose your cars. The sideways pointing arrows show each car individually while the down arrow shows a complete list.

Once you have selected your car, it is time to start the game.

If you wish to configure more options, then select the "Championship" mode here (Championship mode must be selected from this screen.)

This may be done at a later time if you are too impatient to wait to try the mod.

The next installment of this guide will follow soon.
