Car Tuning 101 B .

Car Tuning 101 - The basic setup.

New additions to these pages were done July 17 2005 and are in blue

NOTE: These setup pages were done for the F1 2002 GTR mod but the settings hold true for SimBin's GTR FIA-GT stand alone mod, Game and rFactor

After talking with numerous players I am going into the way I approach setting up a car in GTR.
Before going out on the track there are some settings I make to each car.
I try to achieve "stability" in my cars. I am NOT an "hot lapper".

In step 1 I have omitted the settings that do not change form the defaults.

Step 1

The basic setup.
If you analyze your setups you will most likely see a "trend" in the settings.
In mine the following usually stay close to the same values:
Note: These are first try values only and subject to change for each track

Strategy, Gearing, and Brakes page.
All settings in standard not metric.

  • Tires
Medium to start.
Or Default
  • Fuel
I start by running a full load of fuel. This slows the car down just a bit and moderates the handling - After I have run a good number of practice laps, I then lower to enough for only 4 laps to see what I can do for best time.
  • Steering lock
Lowered to around 13 degrees. Setting this low makes full throttle turn exits less "tail happy" and cuts down on the spin outs.
This depends on the mod and game. I usually lower this a few degrees.
  • Rev Limit
Set to maximum.
  • Radiator opening
5 Check engine temps in setup page. Try to run around 200 F
  • Final gearing
Set to the lowest. 10/36 usually.
No Final gearing on GTR
  •  Power
50%
  •  Coast
50%
  • Preload
50%
  • Diff Lock
50%

  • Brake Bias
58/42  But this really depends on the car.
Set keyboard shortcuts for brake bias so you may try changing on track. I use the shift control on my Momo wheel.
  • Brake duct
5 Monitor in LCD screen. Brakes should run around 600 F

Suspension and Aero page

  • Ride Height

  • Front Splitter

  • Anti-roll bar

Save this vehicle setup in your root setup folder as "Basic (name of car)" (The "root" folder is the one at the very top of the save car settings screen)
Your basic setup is done. Now its time to take the car out on the track.
